Adjusting to College in TIP

Adjusting to College the T.I.P. Way

College life often brings with it a combination of excitement and anxiety, especially for freshmen students, who are only getting started in their higher education journey.

But if you get accepted to the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.), you are in luck because you will not have a hard time making friends and finding good mentors to support you.

Nonetheless, we listed five practical tips to help new T.I.P.ians settle into their latest campus life. Consider these as friendly advice based on the experience of some of our students:

Build Your Routine. Create a regular schedule for the entire semester. Establish a consistent yet flexible sleep and wake cycle to get you in the rhythm of young adulthood.

This includes building your own study habits and sticking to them as much as possible. Decide how many hours you must devote to each subject in your curriculum for a focused learning.

Find Your Squad. T.I.P. has existing student organizations that will enable you to quickly adjust into college life. These groups were established precisely to serve that purpose.

Most clubs have that mentor-mentee relationship between new and continuing students to ensure they help each other learn and succeed beyond the classrooms.

Know the Culture. Some students may struggle to fit in once they go into college and that is understandable. But learning to adjust to a new culture will benefit you in the long run.

Use your time in college not only to acquire knowledge in your chosen field of discipline, but also establish social capital that will help you develop a sense of belonging to the community.

Practice Stress Management. It is important for college students to manage their stress levels while they are still young to keep their physical and mental health in check.

Academic life can be both thrilling and tiring. Finding the right balance between school and your life outside of it is key towards creating and maintaining good experiences around the campus.

Stay Focused. Whatever situation you may find yourself in, make sure that you keep working towards your goal. For most students, this means passing their classes and graduating on time.

T.I.P.ians are taught to have a “grit and determination” mindset. This, in turn, serves as their foundation for developing strong and desirable work ethics.
