MECHANICS OF THE CONTEST

ELIGIBILITY

 

The “1st Annual Quantum Clash: A Math and Physics Showdown” by Math and Physics Collaborative Society – Technological Institute of the Philippines Manila (MPCS – TIP Manila) is open to all currently enrolled Grade 10 and Grade 12 students at any school in National Capital Region (NCR) and Region IV-A (CALABARZON).

 

 

COVERAGE

 

Grade 10: Mathematics and Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) Subjects

 

Grade 12: The question may come from General Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, Basic Calculus, Probability and Statistics, General Physics 1, and General Physics 2. However, please expect a higher level questions.

 

 

 

THE GENERAL GUIDELINES

 

1. The Contest will be conducted on May 15, 2023, at 8 AM at the Dr. Teresita U. Quirino (DTUQ) Hall, 6th Floor, Arlegui Campus, Technological Institute of the Philippines - Manila located at 1338 Arlegui Street, Quiapo Manila.

 

2. All contestants are advised to be on the contest venue at least thirty (30) minutes before the start of the contest/program and are required to register with the Registration Committee. The participants are highly encouraged to wear their respective school uniform or any decent outfit.

 

3. There will be two contests to be conducted: Individual Written Exam-Type Contest for Grade 10 and Group Quiz Show for Grade 12.

 

4. Each team should have one coach.

4.1. One coach for Grade 10 team.

4.2. One coach for Grade 12 team.

 

5. All final answers shall be written legibly and simplified for both Individual and Group Quiz Show. Answers must be given in exact value (meaning, fractional form for rational number while for irrational number, express the answer in radical form or in terms of e or in terms of pi, or the likes) with corresponding unit, unless otherwise is stated in the problem. All answers not following this rule shall be considered incorrect.

 

6. The highest scorer in the Quiz Show shall be declared the winner. The second and third highest scorers shall be declared as the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively.

INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN EXAM-TYPE CONTEST (GRADE 10)

 

1. The contestants must be three (3) Grade 10 students per participating schools.

 

2. The Individual Contest shall be a written examination.

 

3. Questions shall be asked with corresponding points depending on the level of difficulty.

 

4. Answers not written in simplest form or with incorrect or no units are considered incorrect answers.

 

5. The average score of the participating schools will be determine.

 

6. The highest scorer in the Quiz Show shall be declared the winner. The second and third highest scorers shall be declared as the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively. In a case of tie, the student who answered the most number of items of questions will be considered as the winner of the tie breaker.

 

 

GROUP QUIZ SHOW CONTEST (GRADE 12)

 

1. The contestants must be five (5) Grade 12 students per participating schools.

 

2. The Group Quiz Show is divided into two (2) parts – the Multiple Choice Exam and the Group Oral Quiz Show.

 

3. The Multiple Choice Exam which will constitute 30% of the group’s total points, is a 30-item exam that is good for only 30 minutes. The contestants will be given a questionnaire and a separate answer sheet to be shaded.

 

4. The contestants must choose the best answer among the choices and each question will have a corresponding point.

 

5. For the Group Oral Quiz Show which will constitute 70% of the group’s total points, there shall be ten questions each level of difficulty (Easy, Average, and Difficult).

 

6. Each easy questions will be awarded 2 points, each average question will be 3 points, and each difficult question will be awarded 5 points.

 

 

6.1. EASY ROUND

  • Each student in a participating school will answer two (2) questions out of (10). The student will sit in his/her designated armchair in front of the stage. The questions will be read twice and the student will be provided by a hard copy of the question. The answer must be written on the provided white board. After the question, the next student will replace the former. The cycle will continue until the 10 questions are finished.
  • No scratch papers and calculators are allowed.

 

 

6.2. AVERAGE ROUND

  • The team will designate three students from their team to play all throughout the round. The remaining two will be on standby.
  • No substitutions can be made once the average round started.
  • Scratch papers will be provided. However, no calculator is allowed.

 

 

6.3. DIFFICULT ROUND

  • All members of the team will play all throughout the round.
  • Scratch papers will be provided and calculators are allowed. Only non-programmable calculators are allowed.

 

 

7. Protest regarding the questions should be raised before the next question is asked. The judges’ decision is final and unappealable.

 

8. Any other cases, issues and problems that may arise during the contest and not herein discussed will be resolved by the Board of Judges. Their decision will be deemed final.

 

9. In any case there is a tie, a tie-breaking question will be given in a form of problem solving. A student will solve the problem on the spot on a white board.

 

10. The highest scorer in the Quiz Show shall be declared the winner. The second and third highest scorers shall be declared as the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively.

AWARDS AND PRIZES

 

All participants and the coaches shall be given certificates of participation. Cash prizes, certificates, and medals await the winners.

 

Individual Written Exam-Type Contest (Grade 10)

 

Champion 100% tuition fee discount in Grade 11 for 1 year, Trophy, Gold Medals, Certificate, and Php 10,000 Cash Prize.
1st Runner Up  75% tuition fee discount in Grade 11 for 1 year, Trophy, Gold Medals, Certificate, and Php 8,000 Cash Prize.
2nd Runner Up  50% tuition fee discount in Grade 11 for 1 year, Trophy, Gold Medals, Certificate, and Php 5,000 Cash Prize.

Group Oral Quiz Show Contest (Grade 12)

 

Champion 100% tuition fee discount for 1 semester, Trophy, Gold Medals, Certificate, and Php 10,000 Cash Prize.
1st Runner Up 75% tuition fee discount for 1 semester, Trophy, Gold Medals, Certificate, and Php 8,000 Cash Prize.
2nd Runner Up 50% tuition fee discount for 1 semester, Trophy, Gold Medals, Certificate, and Php 5,000 Cash Prize.
